The Lack of a product key is more troublesome. Your license key is burned to the BIOS. You'll need customer support to help you get windows 8 installed. Fair warning, it may be a pain in the ass to complete.
Hi Experts out there, need some good advise. How do I go about downloading Win8 OEM ISO 64bits that comes with all my HP notebooks? I tried to download Win8 ISO from Microsoft but upon supplying the key, it says the key is for Win8 OEM license, not to use with Win8 retail version and not given the option to download.
download iso windows 8 oem iso
You can't download the "official" HP Windows 8 image. The "official" HP image can be created using the HP Recovery Manager that is included with each of your computers. This will make the HP Recovery Media needed to return your computers to a factory like state.
If you have a valid MSDN Subsciption, you can download "en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso" from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. Download this file and burn the ISO image to a DVD or USB stick. Set the BIOS to use UEFI, enable "Secure Boot" and disable "Legacy Support... if these options are present. Boot from this disk and install Windows 8. It should register as an official copy and use the key embedded in the BIOS. Please note that no HP customizations nor HP value-added software will be installed using this method.
Hello! I have a HP Probook 450 with Windows 8 preinstalled. I want to upgrade to Win 8.1, but I want to perform a clean install. Which means: inserting the Win 8.1 DVD (I've downloaded the .iso from the internet.), formatting the disk, and at last, Windows 8.1 installation. Will this work? I've read that my Win 8 OEM key, which is hardcoded in the BIOS, will not allow me to install Win 8.1. Forum users say here and here that it is possible to perform a Win 8 clean install. How is with Win 8.1?
1. You need to download the Windows 8.1 ISO (Can be done several ways. If you have a retail Win8 key, that will make life easier, otherwise look for online sources) -11310_39-57608376-285/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8.1-...
2. After downloading the ISO, use YUMI usb creator and create a USB bootable with windows 8.1 ISO). I had problems with booting from the USB, it seems there is a design flaw, but maybe just mine. Let me know if you can boot. If you can't, you need to SLIGHTLY remove the USB drive (1-3mm). Basically, my usb must not go all the way in in order to boot.
3. Install windows 8.1 using the default installation keys. Your OEM key will not work. This key is only for installation, but you will need your win8 OEM key for activation after installing windows.
4. When everything is installed, go to windows activation or press win + pause (you might need to use a function key (fn)). Change your product key by entering your win8 OEM key.
5. I suggest if your laptop has softpaq installer for your computer drivers, install that first. Then you can select the drivers and software you want to install and do it all at once without having to download one at a time.
Hello, I am wondering could acer staff or anybody perhaphs help me? I have the orginal OEM backup from the acer/gateway recovery on USB 16gb like said before.. but it is 8.0.. I don't want to downgrade to 8.0 if i need to use it again and i have had to use before and it was a huge pain in the butt to install 8.0's updates and install 8.1 again.. Is there a way to get an .iso from you guys for 8.1 with the correct drivers and such or should i just get the windows 8.1 media recovery iso drive maker thing from the microsoft site ( -us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media ) and download the drivers from the Gateway.com NE56R41u laptop driver page and put them on the flash drive in a driver's folder and install them one by one after the clean install if ever needed?
Actually.........it may or may not work since you have Windows 8 product key. Microsoft doesn't seem to want anyone using Windows 8. But it would be safer to do what Saranji suggested and wait for windows 10.

There's a trick, however, that allows you to download the official Windows 8.1 ISO from Microsoft's servers with your Windows 8 product key. With the Windows 8.1 ISO, you can create DVD or USB media to update a Windows 8 PC to Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, as Paul Thurrott over at WinSupersite mentions, you can't use the ISO to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1 with a Windows 8 product key. The ISO is still worth having, though, just to be able to bypass the Microsoft Store when upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. Here's how to download the official Windows 8.1 ISO: 2ff7e9595c
